Just wanted to share my latest acquisition
looked a long time for one for a reasonable price - and they fetch quite a high price on ebay.
this time one of the US based friends helped me out here.
I have a question here - the lantern works great and has a very nice blue flame,
my question is some of the flame (blue flame) is visible above the upper part
what I mean is that if I put a pot on the stove frame flame will touch it.
also the ceramic burner and mixing tube are glowing red - but not the U tube
is that normal behavior for it?
I hope you can see it in the last pic
Petromax 1500 question

Hi Doron,
I assume, that the paddle in the mixing-tube is straight upwards.
Try different positions. In my case an almost horizontal paddel brought the best results. HTHCheers,

Hi Doron,
Nice item. Excellent condition -good catch! It is a bit hard to say if the flame pattern is as it is supposed to be. I attach 2 pics of my 1500 lanterns in use. Some glowing of the ceramic burner is fine I would say -there is a lot of heat produced in this area.
A lot depends on the light when you take the pics. I would say that as long as the flames shoot straight from the holes of the ceramic burner into the stainless steel basket everything is all rightbest regards

Another question on the same topic - what was the original globe on these?
clear or partly frosted.
What I have now is what I think to be a pelam globe "Glas vertical beamless HK350/500 " -
Moin
Here are some Pictures of the original Glass.
Its a bit thinner than normal Petromax Glasses.50% of the Glass are sand-radiated (original).

Thanks Jonas,
So now I see mine is a modern replacement from Pelam (nice anyway)
The only way to get an original is either find one or sandblast an old original globe -
There are 2 Versions of the 500/350HK PX-Special marked Glass.
In the 829B (German Military Version) was an "Special" marked Glass (~2mm). It was a bit thicker than the normal civil one (~1,5mm).
The civil one was not marked with "Special".
And in the 1500 PX there was a thinner "Special" marked Glass (~1.3mm).On Ebay maybe you can find some Glasses from the old 829B German Military Latern with the "Special" mark. If you sand-radiate one of these, you have one, like the original. Only a bit thicker (~2mm).
The mark on the front is the same. The 1500 PX Glass did not have the "Jenaer Duran Glas" mark on backside. (I think because of the sand-radiation.)I'll post a photo of the Military Glass in a few minutes!
EDIT: Here are the Photos of the Military Glass.
Only the color of the mark is somtimes a bit different. Thisone is like dark-grey. Often they are like silver. -
interesting fact, I have founf my third petromax 828 from the 50's localy and all of them have a petromax special Jenaer Duran glass
here is a pic
this one is marked due to heat from a broken mantleand back to topic the 1500 set as a lantern and some atmosphere pics

Maybe some civil series of the Latern became the "special" glass...
THW, ZB, ZS (in Germany) became "special" marked glasses. Can you upload a Picture from your 828?
In the 50's they looked a bit different from the 60's laterns.Im my picture is one of the 50's and you can see the different part, marked with red.

I have two types of 828 the "Zicke" and the "regular" both having the rocker pre-heater valve (or whatever it is called) and both have "special" glass
here:
and -
Moin
The first latern is called "Sickenlampe/Sickenlamp" and the tank has "Sicken".
The second latern is one of the late 50's if there is no code under the tank.Ohh the Pre-heater is called "Dominorapid".
The modern one is called "Kipphebelrapid". -
Thanks Jonas
Now I need to get me that third variation on the 828
Do you know years of production?
