    >What do you mean by adjust the rubber?

Humm, well, not much ;) Let's say I moved it around :juggle:
I didn't know what to do with it, not the greatest specialist here...

    >dose it have the O-ring type pump on this one?
Humm, I have no idea. It is a new HK500 from Pelam with the original pump...

    Hi there,

I've got an annoying problem with the pump of my HK500 and I thought maybe someone could help...

It used to work nicely since I bought it some months ago, but now the pump gets harder and harder to use until it gets "stuck" in. When finally I'm able to move it again, it does not pump anymore. I tried to open it , adjust the rubber and it works for 20-30 pushes, but then it starts again :(

Has anymore here experienced this problem ?

    Thks

It worked, thanks a lot Jan !!! :applaudit:

For the first time yesterday, I could really use my Petromax... 2 hours perfect light without having to pump after ignition :)

I don't regret to have ordered the spare part though, because I have seen that one side of the rubber part is completely burnt and the metalic part is also damaged...

    Thanks again,

    Anthony

    Hello,

When I put pressure in the lamp, without lighting it, it's empty in 1/2 hour :(

I have done what you suggested and here's what I found out...

When the lamp was underwater, there were some bubbles coming out of the pump. However, I think it may simply be that some air was going in the first part of the pump, not in the tank itself...

When the lamp was out of the water, it made a hissing noise. I tried to find where it was coming from and it was... the preheater ! There were also some soap bubble coming out from there.

I think that the preheater does not close tightly... What can I do ?? Do I have to replace it entirely ?

    Thanks for your help !

    Another basic question, sorry guys...

With the tank approximately 2/3 full, starting with 2 bars I'm at 0 in only 10 minutes, is that normal ? Am I supposed to pump every 10 minutes ?

As I understand it, it is better to use the lamp with very few kerosene if you don't want to pump all night, is that correct ?

    Thks, later...

    Anthony

Ps: BTW, how do you know how much kerosene is left in the tank ?

Thank you very much for your help !

I tried to follow your procedure, here's what happenend (with stupid details/questions) :

    >fix your last mantle.
    OK
    >let it burn.
Put a lighter under it for 8-10 seconds and then let it burn 3-4 minutes until it has no more glowing parts
    >wait if it is white.
More "grey" that white for me

    >fill the pre-heat-cup with alcohol and light it on.
    >wait if it is burned out.
This cannot be done with the glass on, right? Done it without the glass and without the upper part on.

    >fill it a 2nd time and light it on.
Done that and this time I put the glass and the upper part on after ingnition trying not to burn myself ;)

    >after the 2nd is 2/3 burned out, close the manometer-screw,
    >open the Vaporizor and beginn slowly to pump up the tank.
    OK

    >after a few pumps, the mantle will light on, not very bright.
Yes but... also very big flames at the top !! Liquid drops (kerosene I guess) falling from the hood !!! I had to stop everything :(

Do you know what the problem could be ? Does it have to do with that famous "nipple" ? What can I do ?

At least, my last mantle still seems OK this time and has a very nice and uniform white colour :)

    Thanks again for your help,

    Beginner need help here...

I have received my Petromax 500 two weeks ago... At first I had problems using the pre-heating device but now I got used to it. The lamp seemed to work a couple of times but now it is a catastrophy everytime...

Even though I pre-heat during 90 seconds, the mantle does not light at all, I have big flames coming out of the hood, with one metal part even becoming red... The mantle has many holes after that and I have to change it everytime. I tried to tight the ceramic part and that tube with the needle in it and what happens is even worse: after 20 seconds pre-heating, kerosene seem to suddenly arrive in the mantle and giant flames come out of the hood. Another mantle completely destroyed.

I've got only one mantle left and I'm very close to throwing my Petromax in the trash :(
