I am having trouble's with my new CP500. It has worked for a while, but all that happens when you light it are loads of orange and black flames coming from the top of it, which inturn makes the mantle black and sooty. When shut off the flames continue until they die out after a few minutes on there own.
What has happened?

have a look if the nozzle of the injector is really fixed.
Also have a look at the mixing chamber and the clay nozzle if they are also fixed.
3dr look at the distance between mixing tube and injector nozzle.
It must be about 14 cm.

I've hesitated to correct you 'cause it smells strongly like nitpicking... Wonder how many candle powers you can achieve with such a mantle. Enough to light a stadium?
