    Hi there!
I've found on Ebay an italian manufactured lamp; a SOLEX.
It's a Kerosene lamp, probably a 200 cp in very good shape. I'm not able to retrive any information on internet about the manufacturer, it's history, etc. May be it's an uncommon lamp. Someone has some knowledge about this brand? Age? Models?
Thank you and happy new year to all readers.

    Hallo folk,
In these days I've bought some lamps in GB: a Tilley Stormlight, a Vapalux and a Bialaddin. All work pretty well, but all original mantles have black spots when burning. Using the lamps for more time, the situation is better, but after circa 10 Hours of burning some black spot is still evident. I've tried to heat the mantles with a blowtorch with minor improvemets. I would like to read opinions about this fact, may be the mantles were exposed to humidity, or is a problem of age or.....
From other points of view these lamps are very pretty, easy to fire up, silent, and with a " romantic" light
As usual, thank you for any possible answer

Thank you for all the answers.
Yes, the best way is to use them also in the winter, but in my town winter is not so dry and confortable like in Germany. Humidity is very high and the nights are often foggy. Very differnt from German climate that I know very well ( the Bavarian climate).
The second very good idea is to convert one of my Hipolito to Alchool, I can buy isopropil alchool at a very cheap price.
May be with this solution I can use a lamp at home without my wife kills me!
    For Burnem:
I've contacted Tom Zuercher, and he has the broken spare parts for my Hasag 351. Bingo!
I,ve just to find the way to offer you a beverage of your choice as promised!

Cold wheather is coming in my town, and stayng in the garden playng with my lamps & stoves is becoming unconfortable. I use them only outdoors, so after a summer of cleaning, changhing and tryng with fun, it's time to put them at rest in the best way.
I'm a newcomer in this collection, so as usual I need opinions.
I suppose I have to empty all fountains, and after this , the question is:
Should the fountains and the ducts ( carburettor etc.) washed with some solvent to clean them? I've worked a lot of time to remove black tarnish from the inside of my lamps, and the idea that next spring I have to do it again, is a nightmare!
All suggestions about this argument are welcome!

Hallo to you and thannk you for your competent answer. I supposed it worked in the way you described, I have some kerosene stoves that work in the same way. Now I'm certain about this.
The scans of an italian manual are very appreciated, you cand send them to info@carlobianconi.it
Soon I will reconstruct the excenter shaft, and will do the first experiments.
I'll get you in touch about the results.

    Hallo,
I'm aware of the fact that I write something every evening, if I'm noisy, alert me please!

The type of Hasag lamp I found is a model 351. I've deduct this comparing some photos on the web.
A strange particular of this lamp is that the carburettor group ( at last I completely dismounted it) does not have a valve inside the fount. The on/off lever just moves the needle ( broken) thanks to the excenter shaft ( broken) . It seems to me very strange that a simple needle closing the nipple can stop alone the flow of fuel, and that the lamp is pressure tight when I pump air inside! In Petromax ( or alike ) lamps the function of the needle is just to clean the nipple... May be I'm wrong about the way this lamp works, I need to be....illuminated!
Another question is what type of fuel is supposed to be used with this lamp? The lack of the classic spiral suggest benzin ( unleaded gas) but I'm not sure. This answer is not a priority for me, it will take a long time before I'll can try to catch light out of it, I have to make a new excenter shaft ( not impossible) and find the way to put a new cat whisker on the top of the terminal screwed part remained ( crazy job)
Or better, if someone has an idea where to find these spares, a beverage of his choice is offered from me!!
    Thank you from Italy

I've tryed Acetone, ant it works, slowly but works.
Afer a couple of hours of bath, I've been able to dismantle the carburettor just for discovering that the eccentric shaft that moves up and down the mechanism is broken. Someone has tried to move the on/off knob with everything blocked. Lucly I have a friend very proficient in mechanics! I think it's a very old lamp, I will do some researches on the web. There is no model number, just the firma Hasag.
The funny thing is that it has an hole in the glass, I think for lighting the primer!
If I find the way to put pictures on this forum, I'll do

    Hallo,
today,it's a rainy but lucky day.
At a flea market, I've found an old Hasag kerosene lamp. It's complete, but everything is blocked by a black tarnish that I can not kill.
My question is: What is the right solvant for this kerosene-produced tarnish? I've tryed alchool, benzine, kerosene, but all was unsuccesfull.
    Someone has a successfull idea?
    Thank you

I know that this is a forum regarding petrol lamps, but I think that other people like me collects also cooking stoves.
Last week, I buy a stove advertised in Pelam's website. The very first thing is that Jonas recommended me to use it with unleaded gas. The instructions contained in the package, recommended to use just Kerosene! With a bit of confusion in my mind, first I contacted Jonas that confirmed me to use Unl. gas, second ( my head is hard ) I've tryed unsuccesfully with Kerosene. Jonas was right, this stove works right with unleaded gas or benzine! Looking at the generator and it's straight shape this is evident ( last a wrong approach ) . The construction is very " chinese" but despite of this, it's work really well. The priming with spirit requires a couple of refillings, but here today it's cold, after this the burner runs smooth and silent.( Of course, you can use the pressure-eating pre-burner included, but I'm lazy and I don't like repump ).
Not a big performer like some Coleman's ( roaring ) stoves, but surely a good buy for the amateurs of this brand of burning devices.
My only remark about the product is that the included instructions must be correct. I have hard troubles with wrong instructions!
By the way , I've seen on an U.S. website the same stove with a different generator, with a sort of serpentine exposed to the pre-heating. Should be the right one for Kerosene, and the insrtuctions included in my stove would apply to it.
After these considerations, I can say that it's a good buy for the price requested.
A nice week end to the readers!

Finally, I have 3 lamps working.
Apart the performance of the mantles, one of these lamps emits much less light than the other two, and " roars" a lot less.
I bought some nipples from Pelam, but now looking again at the catalog, in the page Carburettor group I see that part # 50 nipple has a ( 350 ) near the part number. May be that this is the nipple for HK350 instead of HK500? ( I Have three HK500)
If so, can be the reason for a low performance?
What is the code of the right one?
Another possibility is dirt inside the group. ( the lamp has 25 years) .
I've chhanged the # 196 carburettor valve, and cleaned the remaining with compressed air, but I like to know if there is a right solvent to clean the residues that can be inside the parts.

    hallo,
the forum in English is simply a fantastic idea, my son speaks German but don't love pressure lamps, I love them but I don't speak German, so this is the right solution!

    Thank you.
By the way, I'v seen on Pelam's site that are for sale " Original Petromax Torium mantles".
May be these are of the old generation and make a brighter light?

    Hallo,
it's right, exchanging the complete group, all is fine.
I've here the nozzles, the old one and the new one ( part 221) and my best magnifyng lens, but I can see only the central hole, and no holes around or on the sides.
But the funny part of the story is that last evening, just after my last post, I came back to the lantern for another test...........and the preheater began to work! And worked many other times in the evening. May be some dirt remained inside after my cleaning, but I'm not really sure of this. This evening I'll try again.
I'm not really happy about this, my job is repairing radio equipments and I know that when a defective thing starts to work without any fixing, soon or later the problem will come again.
Fine forum, I'm learning a lot about these this fascinating way of producing light.
    Cheers
    Carlo

    Good idea,
can you tell me where can I buy the " slightly radioactive" mantles?
I have a large area to illuminate and the wite light is more performant.
    Thank you
    Carlo

    About mantles:
I've found my first pressure lamp during a trekking on a mountain, may be forgotten by a hunter ( an Hipolito HK500) . It was integer, but without mantle. A friend of me, gave me a mantle of the right size, made in Hong Kong that emits a fantastic white light and is still at work. After, buyng another lamp,( it's becoming an hobby) a Petromax 500, I've noticed that with the original Pelam mantle, the light is yellowish compared with the Asiatic mantle, good for a romantic night with the girl of your dreams, but less good for an efficient illumination of my garden. Of course the experiment is not perfect, I should try different mantles on the same lamp, but the difference is evident. Someone has an expanation for this fact?
    Thank you

Well, just a minute ago I've tried with the pressure gauge on the red line, my hand over the " fog" smells of kerosene, so I think that some kerosene comes out, in about 30 seconds of test I've lost about 1 Atm. of pressure but the flame does not start.
On the other Hipolito, with 1 Atm. I can experience a steady flame. Of course, exchanching the complete heater, all is fine.

By the way, I'm becoming to think that the old good method of " priming" the lamp with alchool in the bowl ( Hipolito has the bowl, Petromax does not have) is a bit tricky, produces smoke because the temperature is not high enough, but is the handiest way. You don't loose pressure, so you don't nedd to repump etc.

    Hallo folks from Italy!
I'm a newcomer in the hobby of collecting and using pressure lamps.
In a couple of months I've found two Hipolito 500, a Petromax HK500 and other stuff.
The rapid preheater of one Hipolito, won't work. I've completely dismounted it, cleaned, changed the nipple (221) .
The petrol comes out but won't light. Something is going wrong, someone have an idea?
I have some other problems with this lamp, but I decided to start with the pre heater.
Thank you in advance for some suggestions
