Mystery Lantern

Hello to all,

Does anyone recognize this lantern? I purchased it for the globe that was in it. There are no stampings other than 4MB on the smoke bell. It was described as a German lantern but I'm not sure. It was crudely repaired in the past and I would like to learn more about it before I start the restoration process.

I think I've looked everywhere except the british lanterns. I'll look deeper in that direction.

I believe you are right. I think it is a version of a british Sherwood Linley. The glass holder and lift look similar to the green lantern on this webpage.

Also, the wick riser button is badly pitted but I can see Sherwoods Ltd. on it.
