Is it possible to find a "spoon" pre heater for an old Petromax?

Hi, I have an old Petromax with a broken "spoon" pre heater like the one in the attached picture. Do you know if it's possible to purchase this somewhere? I think I can adapt the latest version but I would like keeping the original design. Thanks! :-)

#90 washer for CP250

Thanks Björn, you right! (of course :-)) My washer was probably not 100% well formed, I pushed it a bit more and I could enter it in the hole. No more problems :-) Carlo

#90 washer for CP250

Hi, i'm reparing a pretty old Petromax CP250 (kerosene) and I tried using the same #90 washers than for CP500 (for carburator and rapid) but the holes in the tank are smaller. Is there a specific #90 for CP250? Looking in the Pelam site they looks the same reference... Thanks in advance for your help! Carlo

Geniol 823/CP250: Gasoline to Kerosene

Hi, do you know if it's possible to convert a gasoline Genio CP250 from the Swiss army to use kerosene ? Do I just need to change the upper part of the vaporizer or there is anything else? By the way I could't find he uppoer vaporizer as spare at Pelam... I suppose it's different from the CP500 one? Thanks! :-) Carlo

Difference betweek CP500 and CP350 mantles

Thanks for your answers! What are, in your opinion, the most valuable mantles? I've seen somewhere in the forum a suggestion for the Coleman Top Gold... Carlo

Difference betweek CP500 and CP350 mantles

Hi, maybe this information is already somewhere in the forum but I couldn’t find it… I restored an old CP350 (with a 350 nozzle) and tested it with some CP500 mantles, no problems it works properly I also ordered some CP400 mantles at Pelam and tested this weekend to see any difference, I couldn’t test because 2 of them got broken during first burning…maybe due to their quality So I continue using CP500 mantles as they seem work good, but I’m wondering what the real difference is? Do you know th...

Question on age...

Hi All, i recently bought a Petromax 828/350 with domino rapid and, below the tank it's written 5137 which, if I understood correctly the rule :-), should mean that it has been built the day 7 (sunday), week 51 in 1963. I checked and it was on Sunday December 28th 1963. Is that correct? I was surprised to know that Petromax people was working on sunday in the Chrstmas period, the world changed in the meanwhile :-) Thanks, Carlo

Question on age...

Cool :-) I was surprised to see that they sell different mantles for the 350 and 500, do you know what the difference is? (Size? Material?) Thanks again, Carlo

Question on age...

Some other questions (again! :-)) Is it correct that the only difference between a model 828/350 and 829/500 are the neeple and the needle? The available spares today do fit in the old models 828 and 829 with the differents rapid adapters or there are differences in the old models ? Thanks!

Question on age...

Thanks Wilm for this information! The trick of the rapid type is great :-) Isn't it funny that the E inside the G disappeard from the logo on the lantern but still remains in the logo on the glass? :-) Cheers, Carlo

Question on age...

Thanks! As I think someday I'll buy another "old" Petromax, I'm trying to find out the criteria to reconize age and type :-) Is it true that when there is an "E" inside the "G" logo means that it has been built before 1947? I understood that the "B" after the type means Benzin but what about the "E" like, for instance in the 828E? Tha's all for the moment :-) Sorry but I don't speak German and most of documents in internet are from Germany... Carlo

Question on age...

Hi the Gurus :-) When on a 829 500CP it's written "Germany REGD" under the Petromax Rapid logo instead than "Made in Germany", does it mean that the lantern is a new one from China? Thanks! Carlo

Please help with a bent pressure gauge screw (#149-1)

Hi I received a Petromax from Ebay with the very same problem and I corrected it using pliers as suggested here. Anything work nicely now and I didn't change any spare! Just take care of pretecting the screw with some scotch in order to not damage it. Hope this helps, Carlo

Better light with an « old » lantern…

You right! :-) this is exactly what's written on my Geniol and the date is missing! What's the mixing tude distance in your Petromax whit the longer vaporizer? Can you reach 14mm (or16mm?) Thanks!

Better light with an « old » lantern…

Thanks Bijorn! I actually changed recently the vaporizer's lead seal and I am 100% sure there is only one and the vaporizer is strongly screwed in :-) My guess is that the upper part of the vaporizer is simply longer than it should... anyway, it works pretty well and even if there is a bit less brightness is not so important. I just wanted making sure that I didn't anything wrong mounting it! By the way, I thought that it was mandatory stamping where products are made but I could'nt find any "ma...

Better light with an « old » lantern…

Thanks Bjiörn! I checked the distance between nozzle and mixing tube and brightness is now pretty the same :-) The only issue remaining is that the new Petromax generator is higher and to obtain exacly 14mm (I used the Petromax tool) I should put the mixing tube pratically out the hole in the inner casing... I attach 2 photos to show the difference, the Petromax (recent) has the highest generator. Is there any way the change this or is it normal? Thanks in advance! Carlo

Better light with an « old » lantern…

HI All, I bought on ebay my second Petromax lantern and, following the great suggestions on this site, I easily repared it and it works great now, thans! It’s actually a Geniol German military model HK500 829B but it’s written Petromax on several parts, is it the same company? I don’t know how if it’s possible to know its age, do you have any suggestions? By the way it works so great that it makes a bit more light than the new Patromax HK500 that I bought 3 months ago. I’m surprised as it should...

What’s wrong with #193 in my CP500 ?

Hello, just for general information, I ifnally used the valve and punp washer from http://www.prela.ch/shop/ and all problems are over I really suggest these two spares: http://www.prela.ch/Fundgrueb/Spreiz02gross.jpg and http://www.prela.ch/Fundgrueb/vergaserfussventilgross01.jpg they are a great solution for most commun problems with petromax lanterns! Thanks, Carlo
